I asked Patrick to explain why he raps. What the craft means to him. This is what he wrote back:
When I write I am no longer just Patrick, I become P Suade: a collection of raw emotions that escape through pictures of word play. P Suade is an entirely different entity, it’s an idea if what true expression really is.
Writing is an escape and a plunge; a strange duality of emotions that separate me from reality while also submerging me deeper in it than ever before. Rap was the missing puzzle piece I had been searching for; a form of self expression in the truest sense. It’s more than just a hobby or even a calling. Rap has saved me. It has allowed me to tap into a new consciousness and face the greatest fears I hold within.
I hope the music I make can save another the way it has saved me. I hope it can inspire someone to pursue the thing that scares them most.
I am a son, a brother, a lover, a survivor, and a rapper. I say these things today with confidence no cockiness. Rap has helped me get to this point. I will never stop, I will never quit, I will never give up, because for me, those options no longer exist:
