Hello! Salutations!! Bonjour!!! This is the end of the week update where I share whats happened this week, as well as whats coming soon. Let’s start with my location:
The Office in the Basement at Melissa’s house in Portland, OR
This is where I have meetings, record podcasts, and write fun updates like this one.
Her son Eli will come downstairs and sit with me while I work on stuff. And, if you ask him nicely, he’ll turn down his iPad so it doesn’t make as much noise.
Posts this Week
A bunch of stuff got written and we’ve got more stuff on the way. Here are the highlights if you missed em:
Saturday- “It’s Not You, It’s Me. But it’s Also You Too” -a written meditation on the process of letting go
Sunday: “Feel the Feels” -a short essay about what to do when you’re experiencing difficult emotions
Monday-“Salty Bro Book Club (“Waking Up” Chapter 1: Spirituality)” – Me and Dave released our first podcast of a new show. We read books and discuss a new chapter each week. The first book we’re reading is “Waking Up” by Sam Harris.
Tuesday- “Mindfulness, Meditation, and Dolph Lundgrens i mean Dolphins”– I edited a clip of Dave describing his meditative practice while using clips of dolphins I caught while parasailing in Sarasota, FL
Wednesday- “Who are You? (Spoiler Alert: You’re a Ghost)”– A short essay about the experience of being a human. Not my favorite thing i’ve written, but i’ve decided to say fuck it and share stuff anyways
Thursday- “Life is Hard (2 Years Ago Today)” – I reflected on an experience with depression and shared a song that got written during one of the toughest times of my life
Friday- Thats today. Thats what you’re reading. I believe in you.
Boom. That was the week in review. A lot of cool stuff happening! Hail Sagan Praise the Sun
and now, for a Shared Space update!
I had a meeting with my developers for Shared Space (Bit Grey) today. We are still in the hunt for engineers to begin the coding process.
Yesmi (our designer) presented the super administrative controls. The controls will allow us to enable treatment centers to sign up, as well as give us insight to what our Shared Space users are posting.
She will be sending me updated designs of the website and I’ll look over them and give notes. We’ve got plans to meet next Friday.
Coming this Week
-Inside the Minds Eye w/ Lindsey Sizemore: I finished producing this behemoth of an episode featuring a guest who had a spiritual experience while laying face down on the floor of a jail cell. This one should be out Monday.
-A new episode of the Salty Bro Book Club! We recorded our experience with the 2nd chapter of Waking Up “The Mystery of Consciousness”. It was a real pleasure to do and I feel like we caught solid experience and insight into our meditative practices as they continue to develop.
-There will also be new written reflections and short videos (I’m personally looking forward to these cause I never know wtf i’m writing about until they’re written)
What I’ll Be Working On
I had a great conversation with an old friend. His name is Markham Jenkins (we played on the Red Storm soccer team back in the day) and he’s an accomplished photographer and chef.
Recently, he’s traveled to Peru to study Shamanism. Along the way, he took many Ayahuasca and Psilocybin trips. His perspective and experience is extremely profound and I can’t wait to start working on his episode.
Check him out here: www.MarkhamJenkins.com
ALSO! More essays and short reflections. I’ve got a lot of stuff in the chamber that I’m excited to work on and share.
What I’m Reading
“The Mystic Path to Cosmic Power” by Vernon Howard – this book is the shit. I feel like everyone should own a copy. This is my 3rd time reading it and every time i pick it up I develop a deeper understanding of my self and the world around me. If you’re like me, and you struggle with higher concepts like God or Will of the Universe, this is the book. It’s filled with esoteric knowledge and practical tools to assist you in cultivating a harmonic way of being.
“Joseph Campbell: The Hero’s Journey”- I just started this one and its great so far. It’s all about the life and work of Joseph Campbell, the author/philosopher/professor who discovered a common thread of human psychology engrained in all of our myths.
“Awareness” by Anthony De Mello- I finished this one this week and its one of the best books i’ve ever read. It’s written by a catholic priest who turned sensei. It’s all about learning how to cultivate our awareness muscle and WAKE UP from the dream, or the illusions, we live in.
What I’m Doing Now
Wondering how the heck all this got written. I was just gonna give a quick Shared Space update and write something about what its been like to be in Portland. But then, all this other stuff got written.
I told Melissa that I’d run errands with her but I’m still sitting downstairs in the office.
She’s gonna be pissed.
I hope everyone has a most excellent evening! Also, here’s a picture of the really cool mural on the wall behind me:
