The Magnificent View

Two friends started up a mountain trail together. One of them put more enthusiasm into his step than the other, and so found himself several hundred feet ahead of his companion. Turning a bend in the path, the higher hike came upon a magnificent view of the valley below. Inspired by the sight, he increased the pace of his upward climb in order to see even more. The higher he climbed, the greater his satisfaction with the view before his eyes.

Glancing down at his slower companion , the advanced hiker realized a few facts about his friend. He knew his friend would also reach the bend in the trail where the magnificent view would appear. Then, his friend would also be filled with fresh strength and energy, and his pace would also quicken.

How Love Creates New Energy

Natural law decrees, “Direct a little energy toward cosmic heights and you will win additional energy for attaining greater heights.”

Sooner or later, for the first time, you will catch a glimpse of that Something Else you somehow sensed just had to exist out there. Now you know it exists, and nothing can ever prevent your complete union with this unique inspiration.

People wish to be inspired, but what is the nature of true inspiration?

Inspiration is unblocked energy. Understanding does the unblocking, which releases energy and inspiration. True inspiration abides quietly, but also flashes out with special brilliance, as when we grasp a new truth for the first time. We must be careful not to mistake emotional stimulation for loving inspiration. Stimulation fades, for it depends upon something outside of itself, but inspiration is both its own energy and its own source of energy.

Morris S. commented, “What we call confidence is apparently not confidence at all, for it fails us as often as it seems to succeed. Please explain false confidence.”

Reply: “The thrill of having others agree with us or events turning out as we wish are forms of false confidence. Peer closely and you will see anxiety crouching behind such thrills. True courage is the absence of false courage; true courage has no need to think about itself; it is confident because it has no need to be confident. If I am at home I don’t need confidence for getting home.”

Everyone has an abundance of natural alertness for succeeding at the inner task, but most people waste it fifty times a day.

For example, people are very alert to the opportunity to criticize others and are equally alert to criticism of themselves. Wonders could appear by turning this alertness toward self-release. Give your alertness to this question:

Why do you have more confidence in your enemy than you do in yourself?

Remember that all energy is a single, unified force. The energy which lifts your left hand is the same energy which makes a carrot grow. The power which whirls worlds through space is the same power by which you observe the mood you are in today. This vast energy is ready to renew whoever makes himself ready for it. We make ourselves ready by refusing to take pleasure in negative emotions, by wanting to know more about life than what we see on the surface.

Love is the full, free uninterrupted flow of life-energy through your psychic system. It is a river of energy with no dams or whirlpools or broken banks or dividing islands. Love is oneness, wholeness, mental health. This free flow starts by first becoming aware of self-division, and then by dissolving it through spiritual insight.

Save vital energy by avoiding idle speculation. Speculation is like paying for an airplane ticket you may never use. Don’t speculate on your chances for future success, don’t wonder whether or not other people will like you. Replace speculation with attention to the here and now. Notice the thought that just passed through your mind, be aware of the tension in your fingers, see how frightened people really are.

Eastern teaching stress the importance of correct attention, comparing it to a candle in the night.

When asked for a few practical facts to keep in mind, Roy D. was supplied with the following:

  1. Life-healing is possible to all who truly want it.
  2. The mind can be used in a totally new way.
  3. Learn to seperate the counterfeit from the real.
  4. Replace human opinions with spiritual facts.
  5. Realize that the inner determines the outer.
  6. Things go right when the mind goes right
