I sent a pitch to a VC earlier this week.
VC stands for Venture Capitalist. In the startup community, folks with access to money and connections offer help to entrepreneurs that they see potential in #techtalk
I haven’t heard anything back, but I figured it could be a good read for us to break down.
Plz hit me with your feedback! I’ll be taking more swings as the days unfold:
E-Mail to: Sahil Lavingia Founder & CEO of “Gumroad”
So I was watching Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsay the other nite and it dawned on me…
The one thing that all the restaurant owners had in common was an inability to recognize Reality.
They had, essentially, created their own. And in the words of Ramsay, it was total shit. They just couldn’t tell it was shit cause it was all they knew.
Kinda like a fish that’s swimming in water that doesn’t know what water is.
Or the frog that thinks it’s in a nice bath while it’s boiling alive.
I don’t think any of us really know what’s going on until it’s too late and I don’t want that to happen cause the truth is:
I’ve been making everything up as I go.
Here’s the tale of the tape- by the way, my names Adam Abramowitz nice to meet you
Currently Developing:
Shared Space -An app that gives its users the ability to share as if they are in group therapy, or a meeting, anytime throughout the day
Target Market: Recovery Communities, Treatment Centers, IOP programs, and PHP’s for substance abuse
The problem: maintaining continued care for clients in recovery
My role: CEO & Creative Director (I’ve designed the software since it’s inception)
Assets: $money in the bank and V1 of Shared Space designed/coded
Investors: family and additional capital from outside investors
My Background:
32 years old. Went to college on a football scholarship. Became addicted to substances (never graduated)
Became a heroin addict
Went to treatment centers (none of em worked)
Had a moment of clarity
Went to 12 step meetings and did the steps
Became a musician, writer, and video podcaster
Worked as an intake technician at Ridgeview Institute in Smyrna, GA (ran groups, counseled individually, and helped assess clients experiencing full spectrum of mental health disorders) while developing the idea for Shared Space
Left Ridgeview to focus on entrepreneurship
Today: Living out of my laptop working full time on Shared Space (staying with gf in Portland, OR)
Current State of the Company:
I have a team in Columbia building V2 of Shared Space and they all speak Spanish (I don’t speak Spanish)
1 Project Manager
2 Full Time Engineers
1 Designer
The team was provided by my main investor/partner
Development this week:
Met with my team on Monday while they prepared this weeks sprint. Before the meeting, I felt I could do project management on my own. I was happily proven wrong.
Development from last week:
I presented Shared Space V2 to a treatment center in Atlanta, GA and they want to onboard their clients. All they needed was a price. (We haven’t made a decision on pricing yet)
What I’m asking:
I’d like help in understanding my presence to best serve Shared Space; to better understand my role so I can help steer the company forward.
What I’m really asking for is a Gordon Ramsay to come through and show me where I can improve.
I also think I need to learn Spanish.
Thanks for letting me share 🙂
-Adam Abramowitz
CEO & Founder of Shared Space
P.S. I read your article “Reflecting on My Failure to Build a Billion-Dollar Company” and it was friggen awesome. So transparent and honest.
Here’s what we’re aiming at for the future:
The problem we are going to solve with Shared Space is the problem of social media.
Our platform will be a fully functioning software for self-discovery.
It will give our users the ability to connect with others in pursuit of realizing their potential.
It’ll be like World of Warcraft for real world self understanding.
Folks will be motivated to share, and positively engage with others, through the use of our software.
Think Joseph Campbell Heroes Journey meets Social Media (in the form of audio and writing)
Right now, we’re focusing on delivering Shared Space to folks who could benefit from it today.
And…I think that’s it! Thanks for taking the time to read
In the words of Bill & Ted:
